Star Trek 4 is back on!
Posted by
Matt
Star Trek 4 is back on at Paramount after a bit of delay due to contract negotiations. This is great news, I love the Kelvin Universe movies, they are a lot of fun with an awesome cast, it’s going be great to see more of them.
Noah Hawley is in the running to write and direct Star Trek 4, I've never seen anything that he's done but the shows he's worked on, Fargo and Legion, are apparently pretty good. It's too bad Simon Pegg isn't writing again, Star Trek Beyond, which he wrote was great.

Mike and Jay from Red Letter Media talk about Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
The Gremlins movies are great. I missed the growing up and watched both movies for the first time a few years ago, they're wonderful. Weird and exciting movies.

Star Wars Episode IX Teaser Trailer Thoughts
Posted by
Matt
The first teaser trailer for Star Wars Episode IX got released today. It doesn't show a whole lot but what's there looks pretty cool. Luke's voiceover, Rey and Kylo dong Jedi stuff, Finn and Poe doing Resistance stuff, and Lando and Chewie doing flying stuff. Also Death Star and the Emperor! Good stuff.
I hated Last Jedi but I'm not going to let that stop me from getting excited for Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

Dracula: Book vs The Movies
Posted by
Matt
James Rolfe from Cinemassacre put together a great video looking at all the Dracula films, trying to find out which one is closest to the original book.
I've never actually read the book but I have seen quite a few different versions of the Dracula movies, it's neat to see all the different variations made over the past century.

First Man Trailer

The trailer for the movie First Man recently released and it looks great. Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong, and the movie follows the events surrounding the first manned mission to the moon.
It's been a while since we've had a good true story space movie. The Right Stuff and Apollo 13 are two of my favourite movies, I hope First Man can join them. Ryan Gosling is great, he nailed it in Blade Runner 2049, and he looks perfect here. I can't wait.

How to save Star Wars.
Posted by
Matt
Scientist man has a plan to save Star Wars and It just might work. Are you listening Disney?
He's back! Scientist Man is hired to help save Star Wars™. He uses logic, economics, marketing and math in order to come up with an idea so radical that it just might save the soon-to-be bankrupt franchise.
In all seriousness though, there's a lot of problems with the way Disney Lucasfilm is handling Star Wars. Can Star Wars even be saved at this point?

The theme music from the new Star Trek film series is amazing. Too few movies these days have great theme music, Michael Giacchino did a great job.
The Theme from Star Trek 2009
The Theme from Star Trek Into Darkness
And my favorite version of the Star Trek theme, Star Trek Beyond

Creating the amazing visual effects in Pacific RIm

Matt
Here's a couple neat videos showing how Industrial Light and Magic created all the cool effects in Guillermo Del toro's Pacific Rim.
Behind the Magic: Building Jaegers for "Pacific Rim"
The story of "Pacific Rim" is told on an epic scale, where 250-foot tall combat mechs battle similarly sized giant alien monsters in the ocean off of the coast of major cities, and when that fails, in the cities themselves. Scale is a recurring theme throughout the film, where a large threat is countered with a large response, making humans tiny in this new out scale world.
ILM's visual effects team discusses the design, effects and animation of these incredible machines in this video.
Behind the Magic: "Pacific Rim" Hong Kong Battle
"Pacific Rim" is Guillermo del Toro's modern retake on the giant city destroying Kaiju films that started with Godzilla in 1954. The survival of mankind is threatened by giant alien creatures and to respond to this outsized threat, the nations of the Earth come together to build an outsized response - similarly sized giant combat robots.Behind the Magic: Creating the Kaiju for "Pacific Rim"
Here the ILM visual effects team discusses the challenge behind one of the films signature action sequences, the Hong Kong battle.
Although "Pacific Rim" begins more than a decade into the battle with the city-destroying Kaiju, in this video the visual effects team at Industrial Light & Magic will discuss the process of creating the incredible race of alien monsters from the earliest stages of concept and design. Enjoy the video!
The ILM YouTube channel has some great stuff. Check it out if you find the whole process that goes into making movies interesting.
